Accessories for your Laptop or Netbook III

My third video of accessories for your laptop or netbook (or even tablets now). Here I show items such as security cable locks, memory upgrades, mobile hotspots, wireless display and external battery packs.

ASUS X55A Laptop Unboxing

This is an unboxing of an ASUS X55A Laptop. I costs 279.99 at Best Buy (at the moment).
Specs are:
Intel Celeron 1.7GHz dual-core CPU
Intel HD graphics
2GB DDR3 memory (can be upgraded to 4GB, one SODIMM slot)
320GB 5400RPM HDD
15.6" display (1366x768)
208.11b/g/n wifi
Features one USB 3.0 port

NETGEAR PTV1000 WiDi Unboxing

This is an unboxing of NETGEAR's PTV1000 WiDi adapter. It is needed if you want to use the Wireless Display capabilities of your laptop (if so equipped). The PTV1000 outputs up to 720p video while the newer PTV2000 can handle output at 1080p. To have Widi support on your laptop it must have Intel graphics on board (3000/4000) and an Intel Core-series (i3, i5, i7) processor.

IOGEAR Multi-Link Mini GKB601B Keyboard

This is an unboxing of IOGEAR's bluetooth mini keyboard. The keyboard is on the small side; roughly on par with the keyboard of a 7-9" netbook. It does use AAA batteries so it doesn't need charging and supports pairing up to 6 bluetooth devices. Comes with a carrying pouch for ease of transport.

Toshiba Excite 10 (AT305-T16) Tegra 3 Tablet Unboxing

This is an unboxing of the Toshiba Excite AT305 10.1" Tablet. It features the NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor with the fifth companion core for power-saving (such as when at idle). It also runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and may have a possible upgrade later to 4.1 Jelly Bean. The screen is 10.1 inches with a resolution of 1280x800,  it features a full-size SD card slot supporting SDXC cards and the tablet is built in an aluminium chassis with the screen protected by Gorilla Glass.

HTC One S for T-Mobile Review

Here we look at the HTC One S for T-Mobile. This is of the gradient blue version. The MAO (micro arc oxidation) model is still presently unavailable retail due to complaints of chipping. The One S features Qualcomm's Snapdragon 1.5GHz S4 processor, 1GB RAM, qHD Super AMOLED display, 8MP rear camera w/ flash, wi-fi calling, 1650mah battery and 16GB internal storage.

Notes about battery, storage and wifi: The battery is not user replaceable due to the thin design of the smartphone. If you want to extend the battery life of the device you may want to consider the Xpal Powerskin for the One S. It contains a 1500mah battery implemented into a silicone case that will double your phone's run time.
The storage memory is built-in on the device. You do not have the ability to expand it with a microSD card like most devices. Therefore, HTC provides you with 23GB of additional storage space on Dropbox in addition to the 2GB you get free when signing up. Thus it gives you a total of 25GB of online storage that you can access anywhere.
With wifi, the phone's wifi antennas are located on a small removable panel at the top where you find the microSIM card slot. If you use wifi calling or are doing something with wifi, you must be wary of not blocking those antennas when holding the phone. Otherwise you'll experience delays, dropped calls, and other issues with wifi calling and problems with data-based applications.

Overall the phone is speedy and works quite well with T-Mobile's 4G network. I don't show anything with the camera but it does do qite well taking stills and 1080p HD video.

Overdrive Pro 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot Unboxing (Virgin Mobile)

This is an unboxing of the Overdrive Pro 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot for Virgin Mobile.

PC Repair: Upgrading Laptop Memory

Here I upgrade the 2GB of DDR3 memory in a Toshiba C655D with 4GB of DDR3 taken from another laptop.

Xpal Powerskin for HTC One S unboxing

This is Xpal's PowerSkin for T-Mobile's HTC One S. Retails for $60 it provides both protection and extended battery life for the One S. Very handy as the One S does not have a user replaceable battery. The shortcoming is it takes away the One S's thin profile and it may not fit in most smartphone cases.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX9 Unboxing

This is an unboxing of Sony's Cyber-shot DSC-WX9 digital camera. It features 16.1 megapixel resolution, full HD recording (1920x1080), a 25mm wide-angle lens, 5x optical zoom and some 3D capabilities.

HP (Dell, etc) Action Keys Solution

This is a video tip for those having issues with their Function (F) keys behaving where they control computer functions instead of behaving like regular F keys. The fix is simple: Go into your BIOS and scroll to your System Configuration menu. Change Action Keys Mode to Disabled and restart.

F or function keys are the F1-F12 keys on the keyboard.

LePan II TC979 Unboxing

Unboxing of the LePan TC979 Android Honeycomb tablet.

Amazon Kindle Fire Unboxing

Unboxing of Amazon's Kindle Fire tablet running Android Gingerbread 2.3.5

Logitech S120 2.0 Speakers Unboxing

Amazon Kindle Touch Unboxing

Unboxing of Amazon's Kindle Touch (not 3G). This is from their fourth generation of the Kindle product line.

Toshiba Sleep and Charge | Sleep and Music

This video discusses the sleep and charge plus sleep and music technology found on Toshiba laptops.

Sleep and charge allows for USB devices to be powered/charged through the eSATA/USB combo port when the computer is off or in sleep mode.

Sleep and Music allows you to use the computer speakers to listen to your music from your MP3 player or other device. You will need a 3.5mm Male-to-Male adapter cable to use this feature connected between the player and the computer's mic-in port.

Toshiba A665D-S6075 Unboxing

This is an unboxing of a Toshiba A665D-S6075 laptop PC. It features the AMD Phenom II n850 Triple-Core processor at 2.2GHz coupled with ATI Radeon HD 4250 graphics, 4GB of DDR3 memory and a 320GB HDD. Other features include 802.11b/g/n wireless, sleep and charge, sleep and music and Windows 7 Home Premium.

Logitech 2.1 Speaker System Unboxing

The s220 speaker system from Logitech provides an affordable 2.1 solution (2 speakers + subwoofer) for use with your PC, iPod, Mac or any other device with a 3.5mm audio jack.

ASUS MS226H 21.5" LCD Monitor Unboxing

An unboxing of ASUS's MS226H LCD Monitor. It's 21.5" in size and sports a very thin profile (about one inch). With an ultra-fast response time of just 2ms, you won't get ghosting in games or movies. 50,000:1 contrast ratio with touch-sensitive controls, Splendid Video Technology, and one-touch tilt functionality. HP iPAQ 211 Handheld Unboxing

This is an unboxing of an HP iPAQ 211 Enterprise Handheld. Runs Windows Mobile 6 Classic and sports a 4" touchscreen display. It has 128MB of available SDRAM for storage along with Secure Digital and Compactflash expansion card slots for additional storage. Other noted items include the ambient light sensor and the universal AC adapter with interchangeable plus for different countries.

-This is not a smartphone.

Dell Studio 1557 Unboxing

Doing an unboxing of a Dell Studio 1557 Notebook PC. Primary features include the Intel Core i7 Mobile Quad-Core Processor (i7-720QM) at 1.6GHz. One core has the ability to boost its clock speed to 2.8GHz for single-threaded applications. It also features the15.6"  TruLife 1080P resolution screen delivering 1920x1200 resolution (natively it runs at 1920x1080). It also sports the backlight keyboard option, 4GB of memory, 320GB HDD, N-draft wireless, 9-cell extended battery, and WIndows 7 Home Premium x64.

Cisco Linksys E3000 Dual Band N Router Unboxing

Unboxing a Cisco Linksys E3000 High-Performance Wireless-N Router. It features simultaneous dual band meaning it provides two independent wireless networks (2.4GHz and 5GHz). It includes a built-in 4-port gigabit ethernet switch for wired devices. Also there is a USB port for external storage devices that can be seen by any computer on the network(s). Lastly, it houses "smart" antennas internally as to keep with the router's sleek design.

HP Officejet H470 Mobile Printer Unboxing

'

The HP Officejet H470 provides a mobile printing solution for the traveling professional wherever and whenever they need to print a document. Print speeds are approximately 18ppm in color and 22ppm in black and white. The Li-on rechargeable battery provided with the H470b and H470wbt models provides up to 450 pages per charge. The H470 has multiple ways of getting documents to the printer. Connect the printer via USB, or connect to it wirelessly over a wifi network or Bluetooth. If you have a capable camera, you can print directly to the printer via the PictBridge port at the rear.

ASUS EEE PC T91MT Netbook Tablet PC

Looking over ASUS's T91MT multitouch enabled eee pc and giving my take on the odds and ends of the device.

Cables To Go Mobile Office Kit

The Cables To Go Mobile Office Kit gives you the freedom to create and have available the majority of cables to connect everyday devices. The Mobile Office Kit includes that of their regular cable kit but gives you a nice set of extras. For instance, you're given an optical scroll mouse, 4 port usb hub, ad a headphone/mic combo. Best of all, all the cables, connectors, and other components all fit neatly in a zippered case.

Accessories for your Laptop or Netbook II

I show you a second part to my previous Accessories video I did several months ago and show you items for that laptop or netbook you have. Such items include USB-powered external optical drives, flash drives, bluetooth dongles, mobile printers, and more.

Acer Aspire AS1410-8913

Looking at Acer's AS1410 series, you may think this is just another netbook. Perhaps so, but this provides advantages over the ao751h in that is sports an Intel Celeron processor over the Atom Z520. Plus it features the Intel GMA4500MHD grqaphics chipset, which gives you a HDMI port for outputing hi definition video. Most other components found in the AS1410 series are similar to the 751, however I would recommend this over the 751 as I'm sure you will admire the specs better.

ASUS EEE PC T91MT Unboxing

ASUS's second version of the T91, the T91MT continues to bind the gap between netbook and tablet pc. Weighing at just over 2 pounds the T91MT gives you the 8.9" netbook form factor coupled with a multi-touch enabled touchscreen that can swivel 180' and fold back, thus providing the convertible form factor for using as a tablet or regular netbook.

Specs include: Intel Atom Z520 1.33GHz CPU, 1GB DDR2 RAM, 32GB SSD, Intel GMA 500 graphics, 802.11b/g wifi, bluetooth 2.1, and Windows 7 Home Premium.

There are two things I don't fancy about it: The Z520 CPU and the $530 price tag.

Acer Aspire One AOA150-1777

Looking over the Acer Aspire One AOA150-1777 netbook powered via an Intel Atom n270, 1GB of RAM, 120GB HDD, b/g wifi, 8.9" display at 1024x600, and Windows XP Home SP3.

Toshiba L355-S7915 Unboxing

This was intended to be uploaded in December of last year however I didn't do that cause I thought of redoing it. I still might do so anyway cause there was a bit of unexpected items I had to contend with during the unboxing. The L355-S7915 is a bargain hunter's laptop only costing me about $350 and has a Celeron 2.2GHz CPU, 3GB of RAM, 250GB HDD, b/g wifi, 17" display and Vista Home Basic.

ASUS EEE PC 900 Unboxing (Refurbished)

Taking a look at the big brother of the EEE PC 700, the EEE PC 900. While the chassis design remains the same, they moved the speakers into the base and fitted a 8.9" screen in place of the 7". This unit also includes Windows XP Home Edition stored on a 12GB combined SSD.

Toshiba P505D-S8960

Toshiba's P505D-S8960 uses the new Windows 7 operating system with an AMD Turion II 2.2GHz processor and ATI Radeon 4100 for graphics. The P505D sports a massive 18.4" screen at 1680x945 resolution and carries 9 pounds of weight. It also includes items specific to Toshiba such as sleep-and-charge technology that enables USB powered devices to receive power while the computer is off. Plus, Toshiba's ecoMode allows for extended battery life by turning off and reducing power to components, especially for a unit of this size.

HP Elite E9150T Deskop PC (Refurbished)

Looking at the E9150T I got to go in place of my older HP D4995T desktop PC. This uses Intel's latest line of processors, the i7. In particular the i7-920. Also includes 12GB of DDR3 memory, an ATI Radeon HD 4650, 802.11n wifi and bluetooth, A DVD+/-RW with Lightscribe and secondary DVD-ROM optical drives, and a 1TB Seagate HDD. The operating system is WIndows Vista Ultimate x64 with the option of a WIndows 7 upgrade.

This machine maxes out the Vista scores with 5.9 all across the board.

I read shortly after buying this waiting for it to arrive about all the problems with the E9150T and E9180T. I'm fortunate not to have gotten a lemon with this one as it has not presented any of the lockups, freezes, or BSODs that have plagued owners.

HP Quick Launch Button Issues

Ever see your own or see/hear of an HP laptop's Quick Launch Buttons decide to work on their own? It is a common issue that affects the entire current line of laptops from HP. Users experience items such as the volume control fluctuate, and wifi get turned on/off. Problem has to do with the QL button board as seen in this video (on an HDX16T). I show that with the Maitenance and Service Guide, a person could replace the defective item without sending it to HP, especially if it isn't under warranty.

Maitenance & Service Guide for HDX16 models: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01612461.pdf

ASUS 701SD Unboxing (8GB)

An unboxing of the little 7" netbook that got the whole netbook craze started. ASUS's little 701SD uses 512MB of RAM with an Intel Celeron M 900MHz processor on a 7" display with 8GB of SSD storage. Runs Xandros linux customized by ASUS.

Toshiba Sleep-and-Charge Technology

Toshiba's Sleep-and-Charge technology is a USB power solution that was introduced with their 300 series notebook line (p305, m305, etc) that enabled the ability to charge/power USB devices while the computer is turned off. Normally, if a computer is on or in standby, it will have power to its USB ports. However once it is turned off they're unpowered. With Sleep-and-Charge you can still use the USB ports for power while the computer is off.

Toshiba E105-S1402

Looking at the Toshiba E105-S1402 laptop computer provided by Best Buy as part of its Blue Label program. They went out to customers and wanted to know what the consumer wanted in a laptop computer and then provide one for their needs.

Sony PEG-SJ20 & KB11 Foldable Keyboard

Looking at the Sony CLIE PEG-SJ20 Palm OS 4.1 powered PDA. It features a jog dial for one handed use, high resolution monochrome screen, and a memory stick expansion slot. Also includes the KB11 foldable keyboard for the CLIE devices.

Toshiba E105-S1402 Unboxing

An unboxing of the Blue Label Toshiba E105-S1402 marketed by Best Buy. This laptop was made for the consumer by what the consumer wanted in a laptop computer. Its notable features are the backlit keyboard, long battery life, 2 year warranty, and light weight.

HP C6280 All-In-One Printer/Scanner/Copier

Looking at the HP C6280 AIO Printer/Scanner/Copier that I've had for almost two years now. Still work well, just showing the features it has. This has been replaced by newer production Photosmart units.

Refilling HP 02 Ink Cartridges

My showing of refilling a refillable HP 02 ink cartridge for a C6280. Safety must be taken into consideration when working with printer ink as it will stain whatever it touches. These refillable ink kits can be bought through eBay and other online printer retailers.

ASUS N10J-A2 Notebook

Looking at the ASUS N10J-A2, a fantastic 10.1' notebook sporting the power and potential of an ultraportable notebook in a netbook form factor. Includes some unique features such as an ambient light sensor for adjusting the scrren brightness, expressgate for quick web and media access, and an Nvidia 9300M GS! Superior sound with the Altec Lansing speakers and Realtek HD audio. Runs quiet and will not leave you burned when using it on your lap. Plus it runs Windows Vista Business, and when configured runs great.

Tritton Audio Xtreme BlueStream Headset

The Tritton AXBlueStream gives you the best of both worlds with a headset that can take voice calls and tell you the number of the person who is calling on its OLED screen. Plus, it will provide stereo audio playback via A2DP and can control your media player with AVFP. The OLED screen provides a conveinent way to view the battery status and volume of the device and can be charged with a USB mini connector.

Jabra BT8040 & Plantronics Explorer 222

A little about headsets and the Bluetooth technology. I look at the Jabra BT8040 and the Plantronics 222.

Motorola MOTORAZR2 V9 (AT&T)

Looking over Motorola's MOTORAZR2 V9 for AT&T. IT is a Quad-band GSM phone supporting 800/850/1800/1900 MHz bands and supports the 3G data network. Some things I didn't mention were the micro-sd card capacity is 4gb and the phone has noise-cancelling and voice dialing capabilites.

Asus N10J A2 Unboxing

An unboxing video of the Asus N10J A2 notebook (as Asus says it isn't a netbook). A video of the actual unit will be available soon.

Thermaltake Mobile Fan II

This is Thermaltake's Mobile Fan II, a USB-powered cooling fan. I needed something to provide me with some air as I have classes that are stuck in rooms with nothing but computers and people and yet there are no windows for ventilation so it gets pretty hot... All the reviews I've seen of this thing are good so I decided to get one. It has a 180cm retractable USB power cord which is plenty long, and has a variable resistor to control the fan speed.

HP HDX9010NR Entertainment Notebook PC

Having a look at HP's HDX "Dragon" Entertainment Notebook PC. This is a laptop in name only sporting a desktop-sized 20.1" LCD display. It has more ports and items than you'd find on a typical notebook. Weighing in at over 16 lbs. it is not a machine you'd want to carry around with you often.

HP HDX16T Premium Series Notebook PC

Having a look at HP's HDX16T Premium Series Notebook PC. This and the HDX18 share common features and appearance, just that they have differently sized screens. We  look at the outside and the features of this notebook PC.
